We have shipped!!!! - Unikids (School Supplies for Orphanages)

It has been a long awaited process. We have been collecting gently used and new school supplies for the past two years with the desire to bring excitement to students who are not fortunate enough to afford school supplies. We finally fulfilled our desire on August 2013.

Through the partnership with Kids International Ministries (KIM), we arranged to ship to the Philippines. The schools, sponsored by KIM, in Manila host about 450 students who are orphans or come from low-income families. We were glad to have shipped 1,150 LB of various school supplies to help these students with their educational needs. The school supplies were delivered in October.

We will continue to work hard in fulfilling our mission of providing school supplies to students in orphanages and low-income families in developing countries. Thank you for your continued support!

Founder's Message

senait profile picThe idea of recycling school supplies came to me in 2007 when I realized that my children, at the end of each school year, come home with bags of used school supplies, put them away, and start their summer vacation. The used supplies disappear unnoticed and unused. Like many parents in the US, when school starts in August I end up buying new school supplies, back packs, etc.

I began sending my children’s gently used school supplies to students in Ethiopia, my home country. The school supplies, though few in quantity, were helpful to children who went to my neighborhood school. They were excited to get crayons, markers, scissors, erasers, rulers, glue sticks, ruled papers, etc. They would have mainly continued their education with the basic pen and pencil. These supplies added color to their daily activities.

In 2008, the concept expanded from one box of supplies to many more through the participation of an elementary school in Louisville, KY. The principal, teachers, parents, and students came on board and donated boxes of supplies with great enthusiasm. The following year, we got a second school on board and more than doubled our supplies.

Today, UniKids is a tax-exempt non-profit organization in Louisville, KY and collaborates with more schools each year to support the educational needs of children in developing countries.

UniKids Overview

UniKids Inc. started its work in 2007 by donating a box of gently used school supplies to one classroom in Ethiopia, East Africa.

The school supplies, though few in quantity, were helpful to these children. They were excited to get crayons, markers, scissors, erasers, etc. Without these supplies, they would have mainly continued their education with the basic pen and pencil. These supplies added color to their daily activities.
